Pure? All Natural? Closest to the plant? How do you tell?
Since CBD oil is not regulated by the FDA, companies are finding ways to manipulate the plant and compromise its integrity for profit. Finding a company selling a high-quality CBD oil can be daunting, so here are some questions to ask before you make the decision on where to purchase your CBD oil.
What is the extraction process?
Knowing whether you have a full spectrum CBD or an isolate CBD is important. A full spectrum product will be extracted using CO2. A CBD isolate is extracted typically using alcohol, but in some cases, companies have been known to use paint thinner and turpentine during the extraction process.
There are also companies producing an oil claimed to be formulated to absorb differently (better) than any other oil. Because the extraction process is not shared publicly, it is hard to know if they use chemicals during the extraction process or not.
What is the testing process?
The company you are purchasing your CBD oil from should be able to provide a 3rd party lab report showing the potency and purity of the product(s) they are advertising. While most companies are testing the cannabinoid profile, some companies are taking the testing process to another level and testing for contaminants.
This is important to ensure your product doesn’t contain things like heavy metals, pesticides, leads and microbes. Most often, contamination is caused from the hemp plant being exposed to affected groundwater and soils.
What are the Ingredients?
If you are looking for a “pure” product without fillers, the only two ingredients should be a carrier oil (Hemp, MCT/Coconut, Sunflower etc) and the active ingredient, hemp extract (ariel parts).
Common forms of additives/fillers have been vegetable gum, microcrystalline cellulose, silicon dioxide, starch and propylene glycol. While these ingredients appear harmless to your health, they are lowering the concentrations of the active ingredient, making the product less effective.
What does it taste, smell and look like?
Many people looking to purchase all natural, pure, CBD oil can ultimately tell the quality by the taste, smell and color. The taste will be very earthy, the smell will have a faint smell of marijuana and the color will be a light golden color.
At Hemp Essentials, we only offer a full spectrum product. We do not insert any fillers and we test our product for cannabinoid profile and toxins. Our goal is to provide a product as close to the plant as physically possible to avoid compromising its full potential. We encourage you to visit our site and contact us to learn more.
